MARSHALL-TUFFLEX extrusion innovation
One of the largest manufacturers of cable management, rainwater and drainage products in the UK, Marshall-Tufflex was invited to join Profitnet at its inception. Chairman Paul Evans became a founder member of Profitnet’s first manufacturing group based in East Sussex.
The company began in the 1940s and was an early pioneer of PVC-U extrusion techniques. Today it supplies the construction industry globally. “We need to keep looking at our products and processes from every angle” says Paul Mitchell, operations director.
“Profitnet really helps us because there are lots of different ways of seeing things, and sometimes my peers come up with ideas which are really inspiring, because they are looking at things in a very different way”.
These innovations can be really small, but often have a significant impact on production costs.
Marshall-Tufflex is still a family business and has strong values based on quality derived from continuous research and development, best practice and providing sustainable employment for the local workforce. The company employs 250 people across two industrial estates in the area.
Discussions with the Profitnet group prompted the company to investigate working more closely with the University of Brighton. As a result, Marshall-Tufflex has been working with MBA students to identify potential financial savings throughout the supply chain. Paul says the project was very successful for the second year running.
Paul wants to maintain the relationship with Profitnet and plans to send a second member of his team along to a different group, to ensure the company remains thoroughly involved.
